Question Refresh rate too high with Nouveau LM13 Mate

Hi, I'm stuck using an HP version of the Asus A8N-LA http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...0647121&dlc=en out of a Pavilion A1400e, it has a Geforce 6150(NV44a) IGP that cannot be disabled in the BIOS. Now though I do have an 8800GTS(G80/NV50) 320Mb, currently I'm trying to get the 8800GTS to run well on Nouveau.

The monitor I'm using is an IBM G78 CRT screen http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/deta...ID=MIGR-4MBTHP the refresh rate at 1600x1200 is listed as 65Hz and that's the only option "Monitors" gives me no matter what GPU I use at 1600x1200, the problem is at the monitor's age it doesn't like to run 1600x1200@65,the screen starts to wobble and pulse, when using the Nvidia blob if I drop the refresh rate to 60Hz all is well.

The secondary problem is that with the 8800GTS is at 1600x1200 text is blurry and illegible while this is not the case on the 6150.

On advice from the guys in #Nouveau on Freenode IRC I have updated the Nouveau driver and Linux Firmware via the Ubuntu Xorg-Edgers PPA, though I haven't updated the kernel version or headers yet as I dunno if that would cause any more problems then I'm currently experiencing

Ok, well I found a hackish way to get the monitor to get recognized properly: Install the Nvidia blob, set the settings where they should be via the nvidia settings manager, save the xorg.conf and remove the nvidia blob driver.

I still have blurry fonts though, no, increasing font size from the default of 10 to 14 doesn't help with the blurriness, it's bigger and thus more legible, but is still blurry. Only decreasing the resolution has helped thus far.

I've got a A8N-VM CSM, which is pretty much just the 'retail' variant on the A8N-LA.

While it doesnt let you totally disable the IGP, there is a PEG-> IGP option (PEG = PCIe Express Graphic). With that setting, if the board detects a PCIe video card it uses that and disables the IGP. If yuo've got it, try that option in the BIOS.

I think that the A8N-LA had the same option. Its been a long time since I worked on a A8N-LA, I migth be wrong....

Yeah, I already tried that, the mobo posts to the 8800, then the screen goes black when Grub should be starting and stays that way till the Login splash screen appears, so there is something up there with Linux going with the 6150 over the 8800 as you can see here.

Looks right to me.

NV50 is 8800 GTS-

http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames#NV50

Only the 8800 GTS listed in your lspci output as well.

Tried getting the newest BIOS?
