How do I get the package manager to download 300 plus files?

I just installed Linux Mint Mate and did an apt-get update. How do I get the package manager to download the 300 plus files because clicking the apply does nothing? Thanks!!

If upgrade tick on the little square boxes to leave a check mark before hitting apply.

There should be a select all button you hit 1st also before hitting apply.
