What laptop to buy to run linux

God has been around infinitely longer than your Dell, I can assure you.

I would second the advice given by frankbell, a system that already has Linux preinstalled might be a better option, although I doubt you will find any laptop with both a 13 inch screen and a CD/DVD drive.

I think you'd probably be better off with a 14". They have a lot more options, better hardware, aren't that much clunkier, and cost very little more.

Thanks for all the feedback! I think I will look into the possibility of a 14" machine. if i can find a dell that fulfills my requirements, I will go for it, i have 2 already and i do think that getting 8 years of wear out of my xps is amazing. i will update here for the benefit of others who are looking for a new laptop
