sound annoyance

i have a compag presario 2199us with suse 9.2 i believe. the sound is working fine for the most part but in order for it to work, each time win i turn on the computer, i have to go into YAST and choose sound card for it to autodetect it. then it will work. Any way to make it do this automatically during boot up? its really annoying.
