PCMCIA card - eth0 impossible

Hi everyone.

I'm having troubles with my pcmcia card and despite my searches, i have no clue of what is going on.

I'm running Suse 9.1 right now but i had the same problem with RH9 earlier.

The card seems to be recognized (i got the 2 "beeps" at boot time), the service pcmcia is running, etc... Some informations are listed below.

The point is : i cannot figure out how to get eth0 up, even though i tried with yast to configure it.

It is a Texas Instrument PC1410 PC Cardbus, with 1 LAN and 1 modem connector.

If i try : sh -x /etc/pcmcia/network start eth0

and a 'ifconfig -a' the eth0 is still not here...

Any help would be nice. Please tell me if any more information is required.

thanks for your attention.

cheers
flo

For my SMC 2835W card, I needed to copy the firmware to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware. As soon as I copied the firmware file to that directory, my wireless card came up and immediately connected. If your card uses the prism chipset, check out www.prism54.org.

hi guys !

i'm trying what you told me coreyv, but when i remove and put back the card

it says : carmgr : open_sock(socket 0) failed : Device or resource busy

ifconfig tells :

lo [...]

sit0 IPv6-in-IPv4
NoARP

and

ifdown says that it's trying to free nonexistent resource

ifup says there's no configuration found for eth0

i remember something about networks.opts in /etc/pcmcia, but i can't remember what to do to configure eth0.

Any idea ?

thx a lot
