Nvidia problems...

Got Slack 9.1 today and put it on my new Toshiba satellite 1950-810
Works pretty good... But i cant Nvidia drivers to work.
I can get X working, but after installing Nvidia drivers and changing the driver to nvidia in XF86Config, then restarting X (glx is loaded too) all i get is a white screen with a couple of weird bubble shapes on it, very faintly visible... In other words its screwed.
Xfree log file doesn't show any errors or anything useful for debugging. Linux laptops doesnt help either nor does google.
I read the nvidia readme again, and i suspect i might have to specify some special options... but have no clue what wrong so i cant know what options to restrict.
I tried using no AGP (Option "NvAgp" "0") but it makes no difference.
I recompiled the kernel excluding framebuffer support, in hope that framebuffer might be the cause of this, but still no go.
When i kill the X server my vert refresh and hsync in console is screwed up as well, so i have to reboot to get it back to normal.
This is annoying cuz i cant figure out whats wrong. My XF86Config works great, but if i change to nvidia from nv driver, it screws...
Any ideas?
Thanks for help in advance..

and don't forget to load the kernel module at every startup, f.i. put the 'modprobe nvidia' line into your /etc/rc.d/rc.local

The card is a GeForce 4 460 Go... Still no go. All i get is a the weird screen mentioned before. I suspect it might be a problem with hsync and vertical refresh frequencies, but unfotunately i cant find any detailed info about the monitor. All i know is that its a Toshiba Super Fine screen TFT...
Any ideas?

Well, Well...
I hate to bump up my topic to the top again, BUT...
Its a couple of days im playing with XF86Config and i finally got a step further.
Now i can get X started with nvidia drivers, but its still messed up. The screen flickers and seems "moved". The best way to describe it, is like when you have bad reception on your TV so the picture "dances". Well something like that..
I tried to changing hsync and vert refresh rates but its always the same, i dont even think X is actually applying new frequencies i put in XF86Config for some reason. I've had enough of this and cant wait to get this damn monitor to play with nvidia drivers. With normal Xfree's "nv" driver everything works fine, but i'd like 3d acceleration.
I can't even get any info on my monitor, such as hsync and refresh rates.....
Any ideas what next? Theres nothing useful in the logs either...

Hey NSKL...
I've downloaded the manual of the laptop, and have been searching for the display modes and etc... Its a pretty simplistic manual, but I've found the supported refresh rates for the geforce 460. Still, I don't think it will be any use for you, since those are the basic refresh rates, such as 60, 70, 72, 75, 85, 100, and 120, and im sure that you have already tried them...

What refresh rates have you used? From what I know, lcds don't support high refresh rates, such as 85 and upwards, so start with a low refresh rate, such as 60 hz...

If you can't resolve it, you could still send an email to Toshiba italia, or telephone them, asking for details about the lcd screen.

Well... thats sad..
I partially solved the problem. I downgraded the kernel to 2.4.20 and downgraded the nvidia drivers to 4191 and now they work perfectly and i get a whoopig 1000 FPS in glxgears (fullscreen)! Still, it sucks i have to run the older kernel and old drivers. Reading through nvnews.net forums i found many people are experiencing the same problem and they couldn't solve it either.. Apparently the new drivers (Version 4191 up) are not quite working like they should... Nvidia please fix this!!
