Question Noob needs help with graphic card ATI X700

Okay, here's my situation.

I've just come off fresh from Windoze. I got a new laptop for school and decided to put Linux on. I spent several weeks figuring out how to burn an ISO file properly, so I'm very, very new to this. I've got FoX Linux running (varient of Fedora with a KDE desktop) on a MSI laptop. I know my way around it a bit, but installing and configuring from console is a bit over my head.

Here's the specs.
AMD Turion 64 (MT-32)
ATI X700 graphic card
ATI X200P Chipset
512 DDR RAM ??? might be 1g
80gb HD
Wireless Intel Pro Card (..something like that??)

I got the RPM for the card from ATI's website (X.Org 6.8) and ran it from my jump drive, but then it did nothing... so I'm guessing I gotta go deep into the console...I don't know what I'm looking for!! I've read, it needs to be configured, and I'm willing to spend time with it, I'm just stuck at a stand still here..

AAAHHH! Can anyone help me? Any advice with an ATI chipset? What about the wireless?

can anyone say

You have to run aticonfig --initial
That sets the xorg.conf file so use the right driver.

Yes, that seems to do the trick.

The driver doesn't load at boot, however. There's some packages I need to install, which I'll figure out this weekend. hmm.

Will this boost my CPU speed also, once this is running? I've never had a graphic card before. ha ha.

Oops! I'm still having trouble with this.

I installed the rpm. Xorg 6.8
did. "aticonfig --initial"
got. "using /etc/X11/xorg.conf"
"Found fglrx primary device section"

after that, nothing happens!

My support text tells me to Smart install
"kernel-module-fglrx-$(uname -r)"
and
"ati-fglrx"

problem being, that after checking if "ati-fglrx" is installed i get
"ati-fglrx-8.22.5.1-0.lvn.1.4@i386 is already installed" no problem

checking "kernel-module-fglrx-$(uname -r) I get
"kernel-module-fglrx-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 matches no packages." problem

I'm really not sure what's going on here ???
