Hello everyone I got IBM R40 laptop with ati mobility Radeon 7500 when i typed startx at root it just contunie working for 2-3 seconds than stop working and there is only blank black screen at visual What Could Be happening (ı Got Slackware 10.1 with no updates) and using Gnome desktop (Actually Cant)
That link may be useful, but I find that, with my ATI based video on my laptop, xorgconfig is the only choice. xorgsetup creates an xorg.conf file that just hangs my laptop on startx.
So, my recommendation: use xorgconfig, fill in the necessary info, and it should do the trick.
