ATI Radeon X700 256 MB PCI-E Card Install

Hi,
So I tried this a year ago, installing Mandrake Linux 10.1 with ATI graphics driver with no success. I am back a year later now with Mandriva Linux 2006.0 for 1586 on Kernel 2.6.12-12mdksmp on a Dual-processor 1686.
My current drakx11 configuration states:

Graphic Card: ATI Radeon (fglrx)
Monitor: Dell 1905FP
Resolution: 1280 x 1024 24bpp
Test
Options

My problem is, this is as far as I can go - my console. I have tried "startx" and the error message states:

"Fatal server error: no screens fouund"
And if I try to test my radeon settings, it states: "An Error occured: (EE) No devices detected. Try to change some parameters."
----------------------------------------------
I realize there are a million topics such as mine out there, but somehow no one seems to have their message stating that there is no device detected and cannot even load the desktop. I am a new user and looking to experiment with linux and am willing to do whatever it takes to have this OS up and running.

If anyone has an opportunity and perhaps the patience to deal with a new user such as myself, please reply.

Thank You.

So I guess you installed ATI-Driver from ati.com?
Did you run /usr/X11R6/bin/aticonfig --initial ?

Check if the fglrx - module is loaded and maybe post you xorg.conf.

I never installed the ATI driver, only during installation I set it to ATI Radeon (fglrx) , but I know it detects nothing. I do not know how to even download and install the driver from the ATI site from the console where I am at. Please help me.
