Hello,
I just bought a Acer Aspire 5601 notebook, first installed Suse 10.1. Installed the videocard dirvers, all with no problems.
My soundcard is automatically detected but doesnt' work. Who can help me?
It's detected as follows when typing lspci in a console
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
Could you submit the results of "lspci -s 0:1b -vn"? I'm almost willing to bet that the version of alsa that shipped with SuSe 10.1 doesn't have the subdevice id for your system, but that a newer version of alsa will. If not, let me know, and I may be able to add it.
I looked at the specs online along with the subdevice id you just send, and I may be able to get a patched driver to you. I need just one other piece of information. Could you send one more piece of information? I want to make sure I add your device id to the proper section of code.
What I need is the output from "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | head". This will tell me exactly which chip you have. If you send it to me soon, I'll try to get you a patched driver later this week.
hi I have the same problem on a gateway mp6954 platinum notebook. I installed suse 10.1 and the sound card is recognized. The only difference is that i have to codec files in /proc/asound/card0/.
I ran the same commands and woud be very very grateful if you could tell me were to get the proper driver.
the results of “lspci -s 0:1b -vn” where

All: Sorry for not responding earlier. I've been busy adding support for Intel's new motherboards that are coming out.
vriezea: Your sound card is now partially supported in the soon to be released alsa 1.0.12. I wasn't able to get a permanent fix in yet, but as soon as 1.0.12 is released, download it, build and install it, then add options snd-hda-intel model=3stack to /etc/modprobe.conf file, and you "should" have working audio. If not, reply back and I'll work with you to get a specific modification written for you.
lee_rzm: The codec in your system hasn't been added to alsa yet. As soon as alsa 1.0.12 is released, I'll try to get you a patch to test.
If neither of you are familiar with building and installing from source, let me know. No guarantee's, but I might be able to build a set of drivers for you to install.
Hello,
I download the latest driver from alsa, also library and utils. But nothing works, still no sound. My channels are all up, but don't hear sound. Maybe you can help me with the problem?
as root: cd /root && mkdir alsa
then go to the alsa dir and download the tarball for:
cd alsa && wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/drive....12rc3.tar.bz2 [^]
untar it and go to the new dir: tar xjf alsa-driver-1.0.12rc3.tar.bz2 && cd alsa-driver-1.0.12rc3
then path the sources: patch -p1 < /where/is/your/patch/acer.patch
compile it: ./hgcompile --with-cards=hda-intel && make && make install
then run the alsaconfig too, and at the end look where it record the conf: alsaconf
after, edit the file configured by alsaconfig (for exemple): vi /etc/modules.d/alsa
and put this line: options snd-hda-intel model=ACER
then reboot and that should work
I'm also having the same problem with the simular model laptop, but I'm running fedora 5 with 2.6.17-1.2174_fc5smp. I tried the above fixes but still no audio. I'm not too familiar installing from source, so that could be my problem.
Thank for your help, I need to get this and other problems resolved before a road trip.
Hello all,
The problem is not solved, on my new acer 5601 i can't get sound out my speakers. I tried all aboven but nothing. At the moment i installed Windows back on my computer (for time beeing). I wait on Suse Linux 10.2 so i hope the problem is fixed.
Ok, I'm looking deeper into this now. To help, please download, compile, and install the latest alsa-driver, alsa-lib, and alsa-utils. For alsa-driver, please use this command line:
./configure --with-cards=hda-intel --with-debug=detect ; make ; make install
After it is installed in this fashon, type "dmesg -c", shut down alsa and restart ( "service alsasound stop; service alsasound start" ). Then type "dmesg" and capture the output.
Also, I'll need the entire output from "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#2" and "lspci -s 0:1b -vn". Bundle all this output together, along with your laptop model, and email it to me.
If you are having a hard time figuring out how to do this, let me know, along with the OS you are running and the kernel version (uname -a). I'll try to send a binary package for you to test.
I was running fc5 but now I'm going to switch to kubuntu because I had other problems (wifi and screen resolution 1280x800). I think I'll solve the wifi problem and maybe the screen resolution that way. When I'm finish with the install of kubuntu I give it a try and post the results and info.
Thanks
