No Sound on Fedora Core 7 - Tried Everything!

I recently installed Fedora Core 7 on my hard drive partitioned with Windows XP. However I am unable to get any sound working from headphones/built in speakers/external speakers. I have installed the latest ALSA drivers and made sure the volume controls were unmuted and at 100% volume. I've added "options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=3stack" as my bottom line in /etc/modprobe.conf.

I don't know what else to do. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A100-VA1.

Here is what I get when I use lspci -v

Some have reported success using this:

options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-digout

Everything?(!)

My dear boy, if you *had* tried everything, the world would be a different place now.

Starting with Fedora Core 4, there is a possibility of your soundcard being set to optical out,to check this, go to your mixer, select switches and turn off optical out, maybe toggle digital out.

If all of that still doesn't work, it might be that your system is locked in spdif output, to check this, type in a konsole:

Code:
iecset
Quote:
Mode: consumer
Data: audio
Rate: 48000 Hz
Copyright: permitted
Emphasis: none
Category: PCM coder
Original: original
Clock: 1000 ppm

If Data is set to non-audio, then try this

Code:
iecset audio on

Lol I was being sarcastic about the "Everything"...

But thanks for both of your replies. I have tried both and still no luck.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

After much frustration, I finally fixed my sound problem (which is probably the same as your sound problem). Kernel 2.6.23-rc5 fixes the problem that the hda-intel chipsets in apparently dozens of laptops seem to be having. As far as I can tell, the problem seems to be related to the sound card freaking out when it has too much ram to deal with... My sound worked fine in Slack 12 with 512Mb of ram, but I could "turn it on and off" by adding and removing a 2Gb stick of ram.

May I ask, what drove you to try adding and removing ram to diagnose your soundcard problem?

Well, basic programmer's troubleshooting method... when your program runs fine before adding code, and NOT after adding code, then you suspect the code you added.

Sound worked fine for me before I added the memory, and the one single thing that I changed was to add the memory. So there you go.

I also found out that there are many people with this sound hardware that have been having problems with it... mostly on high-mem machines. I ordered mine with less memory, because it was around half the price to buy and install the memory myself. Most people just ordered their laptops with the 2 gigs to start with.
