Hi there,
Trying to install Mandrake 9.2 in a Compaq Presario 2541EA.
I'm installing it from a CD. It locks up in the begining with this message "Installing driver for bus/firewire card Texas Instruments|TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394 controller (PHY/Link) 1394a-2000.
And nothing works. Mouse stops responding.
Do you have any ideia how to handle this?
"It locks up in the begining with this message "Installing driver for bus/firewire card Texas Instruments|TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394 controller (PHY/Link) 1394a-2000."
You could try removing the firewire card, installing Linux, then put the firewire card back in.
Sorry, but I do not know hw to do it. I even didn't know that I had a firewire port. I have wireless connection but does this mean that I have firewire?
Hi again...
More problems.
My bios is a strange one. I do not have the loads of options that I was used in a regular desktop.
The PnP is not evev listed.
I saw that someone reported this in the past, but honestly I didn't understand most of it.
I can only say that my bios is up to date cause I've downloaded all the files in the Compaq website and installed them.
Any ideia?
Hi,
Thx it is working. I have just one question. When typing "Linux noauto nofirewire" am I instructing him not to search automatically for any devices?
Linux is running but with lots of problems.
I cannot log in as a root in the log in screen but strangely can SU when I log in with my user.
Sound is dead.
And Internet dead also.
I think that he managed to find all the hardware since I can see them in the hardware manager. The problem is that they are not working.
With the internet connection the card is "down" (that's what I can see in the wizard).
How about instead of typing Linux noauto nofirewire try typing at the install
linux nofirewire
Im not sure and I do not have my linux box up and running to test this but I think the noauto means it ignores in "finding" all hardware.
I'm not sure about logging in as root, maybe some safety feature was turned on? (You're never supposed to log in as root anyways).
If you do not want to try a reinstall (it takes time, i understand if you do not), can you turn the internet "on"? (through harddrake on the mandrake control panel).
What happens when you are in a device kind of view and it lists the devices? Does it provide any information on how to turn them on through options or any kind of thing?
Again, I can only help so much with my linux box down. Try everything and post what you try.
After a break...
I just tried Red Hat and re-tried Mandrake 9.2.
Don't know how but it worked.
"linux noauto nofirewire" is compulsory at the biginning of the instalation, otherwise it will hang!
My internet connection is working (miracle). The only thing that I've changed was instead os choosing "High protection" during the instalation I've choosed low and then changed it after words.
