Problems installing Mandrake 9.1 on presario(firewire detecting)
I need help 'cause i'm new in linux and i can't install linux mandrake 9.1 on my presario 2500. When is detecting firewire the installat ion just stop and don't do anything.
i had the same problem on my laptop hp ze5460us. Avoid Redhat and Mandrake because they all will hang at loading 1394 driver. Definitely try the distro Knoppix 3.2, it is so far the only distro that works on my laptop. you could get it from www.knoppix.net
Not true. Run Mandrake, it;s about the only thing that installs right.
Just type in "linux noauto" and the install will run beautiful in Mandrake, Red Hat is a lost cause.
(To be more clear, when u boot the mandrake cd, it says something like press f1 for more options", well do that, and u'll get a command line. There, type in "linux no auto" and you should be all set. the presario 2500 is basically the pavilion 5300, which is what I run. It took me a week to figure this out. Also, I know how to get ACPI (battery monitering) working under mandrake 9.1, if u're interested.)
My Presario 2105US works fine with RH9, with the exception of the videocard in X. I had to set it to use the vesa drivers intorder to get X to run. But I rarely if ever use X so it's not really much of a problem for me.
I have a presario 2528 and i had the same probleme. i used linux noauto for the installation of Mandrake 9.2 and it worked fine. But i cant use x because i didnt selected the good driver. Someone know how i can resolve that??? (Ati mobility radeon);
Well, yes, in a sense... it will run X, but no 3d, and limited 2d stuff. If you edit "XF86Config" (I think it's in the /etc/X11/ directory) and scroll down till u see the listing of the video driver. It should say "radeon" or something. Change that to "vesa" and try it. It should work.
Does anyone know how to make the usb driver work instead of bypassing it. Because i am trying to install linux to my USB HDD so i dont loose data on my internal HDD. is there a driver out there or some patch that i could use (please note i also don't have a floppy drive it broke) by the way I'm a linux
does fedora support firewire at all? thanks for the mandrake tip though, im not so sure which i want to install.... Mandrake, or Fedora... depends if I can get fedora working.
btw, mac, THANK YOU SO FRICKIN MUCH OMG!! THANK YOU!
ive been spending nearly a week, and all i want to do is just TRY linux, but my stupid firewire card doesnt let me. THX!!!!
