Talking Do you have the same BUG ?

Hi .
I will take my best regards for mxmxmx'S help on the 855GM patch and the help for me to patch it . I have install it perfectly under your guide .Perfectly it works. Thank you !!!

Now ,I found a bug ,I will post it to the BBS to find it whether a common bug in using this patch.

The bug is :
After I login (cmdline ), I "startx" , It works perfectly, the X-Windows works perfectly too. I see the patch you make is not to really update the bios ,so I don't wrong about that why it comes into the graphic user interface from the first login...
But after I exit (logout button) from the X-windows GUI and return to the cmdline interface , the screen becomes unstable . There are some tiny lines from the right to left and it jumps from the button to top on my screen . It likes the TV which can not recieve the better signal .......
It takes place when I return from the all X-windows : KDE,Gnome ,Icewmn,Enlightenment ,Blackbox. It will disappears until the system reboot -----It still does whether you login the other user account ......

Are there any process still under runing about the patch?
Are there any problem with the VedioRam management?
I think I have the responsbility to tell you about it ,this bug, if it's real a bug.

best regards
William Benson

In fact there is also a patch for the 2.4.21 kernel at

hasso.linux.ee/linux/kernel-2.4.21-agp.patch

I applied it to a Knoppix 3.2 HD install and it fixed several problems (Asus P4P800-VM m/board). For example, DRI and Xvideo X11 extensions now work so, e.g., mplayer now works full screen.

Later: Meant DGA not DRI. Still get an error message in the log file when X11 tries to install DRI. Something about version number of dma.o.

X11 worked out of the box, but with agpgart related errors in the boot sequence, which have now disappeared.

Anyone actually got 1400x1050 to work? That is the only problem I have with this otherwise so nice laptop.

Adding a ModeLine for it doesn't help, since it seem to completely ignore it and says there is no modeline with that name. Using ctrl-alt-+/- doesn't work either.

I'm running 2.4.21 with the AGP patch (hasso.linux.ee/linux/kernel-2.4.21-agp.patch) and ACPI patches from http://acpi.sf.net.

1400x1050 on Inspiron 500m

The 855patch solves the memory issues on the 500m. However, the BIOS is still broken as of ver. A07. It doesn't support the 1400x1050 resolution.

This is what "Agent Orange" wrote in the Dell community forum (http://forums.us.dell.com/):

"[...]dell just needs to make a simple change. INCORPORATE THE NEW INTEL VIDEO BIOS!! It exists. It's provided by intel! It has support for 1400x1050. All they need to do is incorporate it into a BIOS update and everything will work! The memory issues are solved, we just need mode support."

I've already sent feedback to Dell and requested them to fix the BIOS. Please do the same if this problem bugs you.
