installing redhat9 on HP ze4145

I'm having trouble installing redhat 9 on my HP laptop -- the ze4145. everything seems to have installed properly except the video. trouble is, i'm not sure whether it is the monitor or the video driver that did not work.

the ze4145 uses the ati radeon igp320m, and while that card was not on the installation list in redhat, the radeon mobility u1 was. i've read that many other people have used this setting for their igp 320m cards and they have worked fine. redhat autodetected that card and i selected it.

funny thing is though, that redhat said that it could not detect the monitor. i've installed this version of redhat on many desktops and never seen this problem. and i wouldn't have thought this would be a problem on laptops. i didn't know what monitor to pick, so first i left it unprobed, and after that didn't work, i reinstalled it and picked an HP 15in LCD monitor thinking that was closest to what my tft laptop screen is. but the boot-up still can't start the x system because it detects no monitor on boot.

anyone else with an hp laptop run into this? anyone know what monitor i should have chosen?
