dell d600 resolution goes crazy when docked
Semi-noob running SuSE 9.1 Pro on a Dell d600 laptop. It's running well and my screen res is at 1280 x 1024 and it looks great.
I have a problem however, when I dock the laptop and want to use the CRT (a CTX VL700 which supports up to 1280 x 1024). What happens is the screen goes ab.so.lute.ly weird. It's as if everything just got magnified 5 times. I can drag the screen around using my mouse and get to the parts that are off the CRT screen but it's no way to work.
This all started happening after I had system crash and had to rebuild my kde desktop directory...before all was well.
I've tried reducing the res down to 1024 (and even 800) in sax, turning off and then rebooting while docked but still, it messes up when docked in the same way.
The hardware is an ATI RV250 graphics card.
Some folks have suggested adding a second external monitor but the thing is I never had to do that before. The monitor selected for undocked worked just as well when docked.
Am I doing something wrong...?
