External Monitor Resolution and clipping on Dell D600

Has anybody out there had issues trying to get the correct monitor resolution to work without clipping on the external monitor connection of a Dell C600 or similar laptop?

I have a customer who is running Debian unstable on his laptop (docked) with the docking station connected to a Dell 20 inch flatscreen 2001FP.

The issue is that even though the resolution works fine on the laptop display when he does is function key combination to activate the flat panel the display is "clipped" on the right and bottom parts of the screen so that those areas are unaccessable (can't see them but you can move your mouse off the physical edge of the display)

I've checked out the horizontal and vertical refresh rates and the settings are fine for both displays.

Thanks for any help (in advance!)

Hi Danathar,

The problem is probably that the resolution used for the D600 doesn't fit the monitor. The D600 comes in 1400x1050 or 1024x768 displays. I don't know what that monitor can do, but when I used the 1400x1050 mode on a 1024x768 monitor, I had similar experiences with clipping. The solution is to reduce the resolution on the laptop first before activating the external display. Both KDE and Gnome have easy tools to do this reduction.

Good luck!
