NB not sure if this should be in hardware, but its not physical nor an hardware problem!
Hi all,
I am attempting to make a mini Linux installation in a virtual disk for use within microsoft virtual PC 2004. when I say mini, I mean compiling kernel + user land from source.
I'd like the kernel to be as small as possible, so which hardware options should I select in the kernel config to only support hardware I need?
A few pointers:
+ VPC has no USB, so the hardware will be static at runtime. loadable modules therefore serve little purpose
+ the ide disk controller, according to a windows VM, is an Intel 82371 ab/eb PCI ide controller.
+ the sound card is sound blaster 16, I already know where to find this one.
+ LAN is Intel 21140-based PCI fast Ethernet adapter. *may* know which option this is.
+ the graphics may be a problem; VM additions S3 trio32/64
also, if anyone knows of any premade kernel configs, that'd be great
Thanks,
JM
