Virtual PC 2004

I have Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and have tried running Knoppix on it and it runs pretty well. I have run it from the cd and an ISO image. I also have tried RH 9 and it works from the CLI but the GUI doesn't work at all. I am wondering if anyone here has tried running linux on MVPC 2K4 and what are the distro's that work best.

How much did you spend on MS's product? Sounds worthless to me if it can't emulate a PC properly. (as I recall, MS was peddling the product, saying you could run any MS OS on it - knowing Microsoft and their history, as I've used non-MS OSes in the past on PCs, namely OS/2, Microsoft probably built their VirtualPC to cause problems with Linux and other non-MS OSes. MS's history is full of examples where they do things to trip up the competition or make it difficult for their products to run under Windows.)

Just a thought or two. Maybe MS's product really is reliable and the Linux distro is crummy... but somehow I don't see that being the case. I'd get a refund if I were you and try out VMware, though I'd rather try a third option if one was available... (vmware, at least under Linux, isn't always reliable...)

On edit - inclusion of "properly" by 'emulate a PC'.

I've had pretty good succes with VPC and installing Linux. I've gotten Mandrake 9.2 up, as well as Fedora-Core 1. Slackware is giving me fits, though. I couldn't get Debian net install to work, but I think that was a network config issue.
