kernel upgradation from 2.6.9-5.EL(RHEL 4) ..

hello friends..im a linux newbie..i need some help in upgrading my kernel to the latest one(cause:due to some device detection problems!)..or rebuilding a newer kernel..

any valuable documentation in this regard is highly appreciated..
