Unhappy Problem in kernel upgradation from 2.4.20 to 2.6


i dont know how to upgrade the kernel present in my system since i am very new to this OS. Can anyone help me in giving me a detailed explanation of how to upgrade my kernel from previous version to 2.6.

the most important thing is module_init_tools
and The USB driver names have changed
