X driver for Ati FireGL V3600

is there anybody who got the following new graphics card running under Slackware 12.0 and X (Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3) ?

Ati FireGL V3600

i need to run it at 2560x1600 pixels, but the card i bought a month ago is still _NOT_ supported by Ati despite the cute penguin sticker on the box. customer support speaks about a new compatible linux driver for beginning of 2008...!

any input greatly appreciated, bye,

pisti

Does the ATI driver not compile or something?
What kernel are you running? uname -r
Which ATI are you trying to install?

dear Brian1,

i didn't even try any of the new Ati drivers because not one of them is capable running the V3600 FireGL card. (latest driver is 8.42.3, while latest driver for FireGL cards was 8.40.4). i run currently the original slackware 12.0 kernel 2.6.21.5.

is there any other solution without depending on those cursed proprietery Ati drivers?

thanks, bye,

pisti
