There has not been any response to my bug report, but I have new info. Since no response, I started thinking again and one thing came to my mind. I realised, that there is a USB hub lying in one of my drawers. And surprise, surprise, mouse works when connected through that USB hub. Does that help? Can we get anything from this?

Yes that info. helps.

I've never used a usb hub before. Is it a device that plugs in to a usb port and allows you to plug in other devices to it?

If it's a usb 3 mouse the hub could downgrade it to usb 2 mode? There's also better power delivery on a powered hub. Laptop and even desktop ports tend to be underspec'd in terms of power. Otherwise the only technical difference is the position of the receiver, so better signal over the other, or less interference. I tend to run a usb extension cable and put the receiver right in front of the mouse. May or may not make the battery in the mouse last longer. Mostly nice to be able to pull it and pack it when I travel without having the get up, reach around, or other un-lazy things that annoy.
