video card issue... or not? ATI Radeon 9800pro
I have a P4, 2.8Ghz, 1Gig mem.
I am running
Suse 10.1
Kernel: Linux 2.6.16.21-0.25-default i686
with KDE 3.5.5. (release 39.1) & Compiz
I have a ATI Radeon 9800 pro... and that is where things get interesting.
When I run glxgears this is the output:
Quote:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
18919 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3783.672 FPS
21775 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4354.890 FPS
22387 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4477.254 FPS
22560 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4511.994 FPS
21162 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4232.320 FPS
|
I am not sure why it says the DRI is missing.. however, when I run fgl_glxgears - this is the output:
Quote:
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get fbconfig
|
I installed the ATI drivers through Yast.
My Xorg.conf shows the rules to load DRI -

however, my Xorg.0.log file shows it fails to load dri - at least that is what I am thinking..

Where do I go? What do I have to do?
Compiz is running pretty much ok. As I am running KDE - I seem not to be able to find out how to get the Compiz manager working correctly, however, I can roll the cube. Also I am able to run e.g. Google earth. Not as smooth as under m$WinXP, however it is working pretty ok. Any help is appreciated.
PS. Also the ATI control panel doesn't fully work: it comes up with a EM: Driver does not provide the FireGL extensions! Panel components will operate only partially.
Then it shows the Panel Where I can only see the OpenGL area - Vendor: ATI tech. Inc.; Version: 1.2 (2.0.6011 (8.28.8)); Renderer: RADEON 9800 PRO Generic

It fails because the xfree86-dri module does not exist. This is because it was never installed; according to the Xorg.0.log, it is too experimental to be shipped by default. You don't need it to have HW acceleration, however.
