Question USB keyboard not detected until I unplug it ???

I am running MEPIS Linux. I have a USB keyboard connected to the machine. The keyboard is detected by BIOS as I can enter setup, however once I get to the KDE login screen....nothing. If I unplug the keyboard for a couple seconds, then plug it back into the usb slot........the keyboard is detected. Not the end of the world, but a bit of a pain in the neck.

Help would be appreciated.
