USB-disk with seperate vg works fine until reboot

I have created a VG and lv's on an external USB-disk. This works fine until I reboot.

When rebooting it fails during boot and you have to run fsck -y. this does not help. I have to remove it from the fstab to boot the system again. After bootup the VG is still displaying but no LV's can be found.

re-creating the VG/FS and it worsk fine again until next reboot...

suse 9.0 (have to use 9.0 due to raid-controller not supported by 9.3). Maxtor III 500 GB ext. usb disk.

Have you tried unplugging the disk while you reboot and then plugging it back in? Could just be a hotplug thing!

the unplug-during-boot is what I did not want to do as its a remote system on a Vessel. I did manage a workaround though. NOT to create a vg on it, but just create a lv. and NOT mount it with fstab but to create a little 'script' saying 'mount running in /etc/init.d/ saying

echo -n "Mounting /multidata. . ."
mount /dev/sdc1 /multidata
echo "Mounted."

Add this to startup by typnig 'insserv <name>' and make sure its running during startup.

I also had to make sure the USB was not the primary disk..this I had to do in BIOS..
hope this can be helpful for others out there ;-)
