I have just acquired a Digital Dream Enigma1 USB camera, and have spent the last 2 hours Googling and Searching How-Tos and LinuxQuestions. From what I can gather I need to mount the camera as follows:

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera

I had already created the camera directory under /mnt with

mkdir -m 777 camera

but on checking the /dev directory there is no sda1

lsmod | grep usb

gives the following:

I am a bit stuck, I think that the standard Mandy kernel that I have installed doesn't have SCSI support loaded, but I don't know how to do this.

Please help.

create sda device in /dev directory

cd /dev
./MAKEDEV sda



or do you use devfs or something like this?

Is this meant to take a long time?

no, this take only one second

The command

makedev /dev/sda

took 1.5 hours at 99% CPU usage and created approx 8000 entries under the sda directory, one of which was an sda1 which when added to the mount

mount -t vfat /dev/sda/sda1 /mnt/camera

returned

/dev/sda/sda1 not a valid block device

I'm still confused?

Plug in the camera and look at the output of dmesg for messages relating to a mass storage device and sda.

Though the time stamp of this file is when it was booted up the file /var/log/messages contains the following and is written to when the camera is plugged in:
