tv out almost working

i got tv out (nvidia 6800) always working in linux (mandriva) all actually works fine during boot and i see a clone of my monitor on my tv, however, when i get to the log on page my tv distorts and blurs but my monitor still works. any ideas y it would work during boot and bios test but as soon as x starts it goes blurry

I suspect my hertz is being changed somewhere in a script right when x starts

Your resolutions too high, drop it to 800x600 or 640x480.
