cannot download files in mozilla -save dialog not working, galeon not working

I dont know what happened but whenever I click on the shortcut for Galeon, it does not run. It thinks galeon is running and attaches to the existing process but nothing happens. In Mozilla, i can surf the web fine but when I try to save something I want to download, the save dialog box does not pop up. Clicking on a download link does nothing. I think it may be related to Galeon having problems also. This is not firewall related as another user in this machine can download stuff fine (and that user is not root). It seems to be just my regular user account. Could be something in my home dir thats messed up.

Any help is appreciated
