system for verifying hardware conflict?

I may have a conflict between an on-board sound chip and a pci sound card (Creative SB Live! 16).

No sound from the card, and I would like to rule out hardware conflict as the reason.

disable the onboard in your bios if you don't want to use it, or pull the pci card out if you don't want to use it, then configure your soundcard
