Question switching to LCD display?

I currently have a ViewSonic PF970 running 1280x1024. My son just bought a Dell 1905FP, so I tried it out. Worked fine in Windows, but when I booted FC3 and started X, the monitor stayed black and gave me a message that the analog video mode was not supported.
The monitor is connected via the analog cable through a KVM switch (my laptop running FC2 also connected, and showed the same problem).
What would I have to do to make the switch to an LCD monitor? Edit XF86config manually? What would be the right settings?
