Switching to LCD?

Hey-
i am considering purchasing an LCD screen to replace my 17" CRT. Sy OS is Suse 9.1 Professional. Are there any precautions i need to take before switching monitors? The reason i ask, i have heard some people swapped, and weren't able to view their screen properly. I know you can go into Yast and configure the new monitor, but if you cant see all the screen or something, are you just out of luck?

Please advise.

Thanks,
-myk

My daughter is using Fedora and switching to a flat screen was no problem at all. It just plain works.
