Hello LQ Community:
I am looking to build a kiosk like setup for process control. Everything can be done from a browser interface and my plan is to use an older (32bit) laptop with a touchscreen monitor connected. I am currently researching monitors and am trying to figure out touch support prior to purchase. At present my preferred Monitor would be either the Viewsonic VX2258WM or the HP Compaq L2105tm. So below are my questions ... would appreciate any advice of the group:
1) Which distro will be the path of least resistance to getting the touch screen up and running? (I am currently playing with Linux Mint and I have a Fedora server ... but I am open to others, particularly any flavor of Ubuntu). I thought I saw somewhere that there is a distro that has all of the touchscreen enabled / installed from the get go ... I just don't remember which one.
2) I cannot tell for sure but it would appear that more and more support is being built into the kernel. How do I find out the current status of touchscreen support? (example

3) I have seen other things like
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/XF...-Screen-HOWTO/ but they seem a bit outdated. Can anyone point me at a more current version.
4) It would seem that the issues are related to USB and multi touch drivers, the monitor portion should work fine. What is the consensus on how long it might be before a driver is available for these if they cannot be made to work now?
Although I have several versions of Linux up and running I am in no way an Linux expert. I have recompiled things with changes to get things working and I follow instructions well and I am not "afraid" to get down and dirty, I just need some guidance to get started (and when I inevitably get stuck).
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.
Regards:
Dan
