Question Compaq X1000 modem support

Running RH9 (2.4.20-8) and Windows XP. Everything seems to be running OK, except for... you guessed it... the modem. Appears to be made by Agere AC'97 type.

Reported by 'scanmodem' as
8086:24c6 PCI Bus
0e11:0860 PCI-ID Subsystem (Compaq, Intel chipset)

Tried the 'linmodem.org'site, numerous discussion forums, intel site, compaq.....

Can pctel (0.9.6) be configured for use with this modem? I have got as far as 'make install', but getting unresolved symbols reported.

Maybe someone out there has cracked this... here's hoping.

Thanks

Compaq X1000 AgereModem Driver

Ok, after much searching around, I found a recent, little-known, but suitable linux driver for Agere soft modems. (Suitable for IBM TP TP40 and Compaq X1000 series laptops, written by Soumyendu Sarkar, Agere Systems Inc). Spread the word if it works for you!

Follow this link:

http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-46258

Scroll down page until you find the 'linux' hyperlink under modem section. Clicking this will result in taking you to another page where you simply select an apprropriate region for downloading the driver - just follow the instructions given. This will take you to a page on the Agere website (can't seem to access directly), where you can download a beta RPM. Works perfectly!
