Sound on ASUS A7V8X Solution

I have Debian Sarge running on a computer with a ASUS A7V8X mainboard. Sound chip was detected, drivers loaded... but *no* sound.

Then, after spending 1 1/2 hours trying to figure out which drivers were not loaded correctly etc, I found out that you have to plug your speaker into the RED jack of the sound I/O.

The reason for this is that this board actually provides 6-channel audio, and the functions of these jacks can be changed in software whether you want to have 2, 4 or 6 channel audio. For some reason Linux chooses to use the red jack as output. I don't know about the Other O$, obviously didn't install that, but is has been reported that it uses the green (lime) jack as output, as expected.
