run a mixer and check that the inputs are not muted or volumes low
kmix is easy....dark green against input . mic means muted
then slide volume up to about 70 %
tab for switches is slightly harder....you tell kmix where the jacks are.
or try alsamixer.
but once you find the cuprit you need to have a file called /etc/asound.state edit with root powers....if on reboot your last settings were not saved.
my mute for mic is about number 87 so use control/f for find and search for mute? or scroll
I opened up Kmix and to my dismay found my mic was muted. So now I do have input. I feel ashamed.
But this raised a new problem. even with everything in Kmix turned all the way up, anything I say is inputted as whisper-quiet (I yelled directly into the microphone and got nowhere near ordinary conversation volume).
So, from one problem and on to the next. Any suggestions?
On a whim I downloaded another sound mixer bu the name of QAMix. After turning up the microphone volume on that, all my mics works fine. I guess it might just have been an error in Kmix or something.
At any rate, my problem is solved. Thanks very much aus9.
