Slow IDE Disk after new kernel

Hello,

I compiled a new kernel today, and after booting it, I noticed my IDE disk is really slowing down my system. The transfer rates are good as indicated by hdparm:

# hdparm -Tt /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.56 seconds =228.57 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.44 seconds = 44.44 MB/sec

But the problem is whenever I access the disk, my system locks of 10-30 seconds. I'm fairly certain its something with the disk that's causing this problem. When I unmount the disk, and just use my SCSI drive, the lockups go away. I believe I've forgotten or put something in my kernel config that is causing this problem. Here is some more info to help diagnose the problem:

# hdparm -i /dev/hda

/dev/hda:

Nevermind... Instead of using the VIA driver for the IDE controller, I switched to the Generic one. It seems to have fixed the problem.
