Slackware Ethernet Issues

Iv been using Slackware for about a year now, suddenly my last computer died so I bought another, everything is working fine so far with this computer asides from the fact I can't get the ethernet to work. I used another computer to put the ethernet driver on the computer, installed it from a tar.gz and still it won't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Computer: Dell optiplex 745 (not a "c" or any other just a 745)

Ethernet Card: Broadcom® 5754 Gigabit Ethernet LAN solution 10/100/1000 Ethernet

Thanks for the help!

On a side note, why does it say "Macos" on the bottom of my profile?

Your issue is likely the Broadcom; Broadcom can be problematical on Linux. I have lots of experience getting Broadcom wireless to work with Linux, but I have no devices with a Broadcom wired ethernet card.

I did find an article on the Arch wiki that might help. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php..._configuration

The Broadcom site has some very old drivers in *.rpm format; you might be able to get them working with rpm2tgz, but I have no way of testing them, so I urge you do search the web carefully before trying. The search string "Broadcom 5754 Gigabit Ethernet linux" seems to produce lots of results.

What precise tarball did you install? That information could help someone help you.

As an aside, "bumps" are frowned on here, and they are generally do not do anything to help your thread get visibility.

Hi,

You can look at the Slackware Doc Project

Configure your new Slackware System; how to proceed after the installation has completed.

These links can provide you with some useful information;

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!
