Slack and 'Dell - SB Live!'

I have a SB LIve! 5.1 that came with the Dell system, my friend says that he installed Slack and it picked is from-the-box SB Live! right away. Have any of you guys dealt with this before?

here is what I get when I run modprobe emu10k1:

/home/hek# modprobe emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: insmod emu10k1 failed

I just ran 'alsaconf', then 'alsamixer', (to un-mute sound) and finally, 'alsactl store'.

To make it easy on you. Get a sledghammer and smash the card because you will never get DELL Soundblaster LIVE! card to work under linux. Then buy another sound card.

Use ALSA because it supports serveral hundreds of sound card models and brands. It has infinite ways to config to anything you want for sound.
