Unhappy SB Live (dell) doesnt work

Besides the keyboard problem I mention before. I have one more problem that is unsolved. I believe the sound card (SB Live - dell version). I am using is not supported by Linux. I am a newbie on Linux. I am not sure what I need to do to make my sound card works.

Thanks,

Here is my post about dell keyboard

My computer works fine in WinXP. But I decided it's time to start on linux.

Here is the problem,
I was trying to install linux RH9. But the computer frozen when I try to boot with my Redhat9 CD1. I tried with the graphic and the text installation. But that makes no different.
I am currently using P4, 3.06, Dell 8250 dimension.

Is there any known problem for "dell keyboard" with "RH9"?

Thanks,

What kernel modules, do you have installed, what your looking for is Emu10k1, its the SB Live! driver.

It your using a 2.6 kernel (Probably not) you might be using Alsa in which case depends on how you'ce got your system set up. (emulation etc.)

Go to ALSA site and download the packages. Next read the documentation and the wiki documentation. Compile all three packages in the order that they give in the documentatoin. If alsa can not detect your sound card, then you have to buy another sound card and sell your card to some fool...I mean person on ebay. If ALSA detected your sound card correctly and you have added a few lines to modules.conf, all you need to do is configure the mixer settings using either kmix or alsamixer. Then you are done but dont forget to save the settings.

I also suggest ordering DELL to send you installation CDs (not restore CDs) if you want to go back to windoze.
