Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

regarding modem dial tone...

I have successfully installed RH7.3 on my system as a dual boot with windows.

To dial my ISP to get to the net I use wvdial. Since there is no dial tone available, I am not able to connect to the net.

I have the same problem when I use windows, but when I give the option to ignore the presence of the dial-tone, I am able to connect.

Is there a similar way out for me in linux? How do I configure my modem like in windows? I don't know how to start the application concerned.

Regards,
Mufy

I had the same problem and I solved it adding X3 to init1 in /etc/wvdial.conf, but now I have the NO CARRIER problem

Anyway, hope it helps!
