you can re-configure your nic without getting the kernel to re-detect it.

what do you want to re-configure?

my ethernet card is not detected anymore. it was working fine but now whenever i boot the system i get the msg

device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

also i dont see any reference for it in /dev. i think /dev/eth0 has to be present for the nic.

so i want the kernel to add the reference.

thanks.

Post what /sbin/lspci prints out. I or some else can provide you an alias line for either /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf with the module (driver) that works.

Add the following in /etc/modules.conf

alias eth0 via-rhine

Linux will load the module above every time you boot into it.
