How can I redetect my 56K modem?

I'm using Ubuntu and I installed it without a modem. I then put in my modem. I tried 3 and none were found. I then rebooted my system and loaded the live cd. The Live CD found the modem. So obviously this distro recognizes the modem so I need the system to autodetect the modem so I can use it. For some reason it shows the modem under Device Manager. I just need to find it.
