Unhappy Realtek ALC259 Mic/Headphone switch problem

Hi,

I have installed Slackware 13.1 in a ASUS Eee PC 1001PX.

Slackware detect the sound card as a HDA Intel Chip: Realtek ALC259.

The laptop has just one connector that can work either as mic-in/headphones-out.

The problem is that I don't know how to tell Slackware which device I connected (mic or headphones). If I don't connect anything the speakers work but if I connect my headphones I don't get any sound at all.

Please help me!

Carlos.

This sound card is a little "tricky". There is this utility which may help you change the values:

Hi,

After updating the alsa drivers I have sound (speaker + headphones) however the internal Mic does not work.

I used HDA_Analyzer but there is a massive amount of options and I don't really know what do I need to look for and what to change.

Maybe the switch between mic and headphones is not necessary as there is a internal mic... But how to make it work!

Many thanks in advance
Carlos

Hi all,

Same problem with my EeePC R101X, using Mandriva 2010. Qlands, did you find any solution for your issue with headphone jacks.

Beside I have an issue with the internal microphone, it doesn't work. not very convenient using skype without any mic. I have seek for a solution almost a day. I have enough, unfortunately I'll switch back to window where everything work fine.

Thanks,

Hi,

My solution was to get an external USB sound card (SpeedLink Vigo USB sound card http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedlink-SL...dp_ob_title_ce).

It does not require libraries so, if you have snd_usb_audio kernel module it should work just fine.

How to make microphone work!

The only solution to make microphone work is to install linux-backports-modules-alsa-generic...

Just go to:

Menu / System / Administration / Synaptic Package Manager

And search and mark for installation:

linux-backports-modules-alsa-generic

tip: if you have multiple versions click on the first and read the description which should inform what name to install...

If after the reboot and mic mute is off, still does not work, just go to terminal and type:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

and add or change the following:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto enable=yes

Then Ctrl+X, type Y to write and exit, reboot and mic will work.

Bye and have lots of fun with Ubuntu (the best).
