My computer seems to have a problem detecting the modem type .I need to use it to send faxes using efax.Any suggestion on the best driver. Here is my /lsbin/lspci output:-
My disto is RH9.0 ,
Kernel , 2.4.20-8 from uname -r
I tried installing pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-3.tar.gz driver but it cannot automatically detect my modem which is a Conexant HSP56 Micromodem. It prompts for the Hal type for my IBM NetVista. Here is that output
[root@jean src]# ./configure -auto

checking for ptserial...ptserial-2.4.7.c
checking for gcc...3.2.2

you need to install your kernel sources. I didn't notice that on the first post. should be on your distro cd. After doing that you should be able to compile your driver.
I think another problem is that he says he has a "Conexant" modem. The lspci output indicates a PCTel modem but it doesn't have codes I'm familiar with. Maybe it will work, though, once he gets the kernel sources (or headers) installed.
If it's really a Conexant modem, there's support from linuxant.com but you have to pay if you want > 14.4 speed.
