Problems installing with intel 82801 sata raid controller

Hi,

I'm new to linux but I would like to install it on my machine. So I went ahead and grabbed a knoppix livecd and tried it out.
Unfortunately i got a kernel panic and that was pretty much it. I've also tried the ubuntu livecd. This one boots but there's appearently no support for this particular controller.

My machine runs on a intel 945 motherboard with a 82801 sata raid controller and 2 x 160 gb disks in a RAID0 configuration.
Is it possible to manually add support for this layout during install?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
