Problem with C.Itoh Ci5000 Printer - No Driver - Prints 80 columns
We built a new server for a client...It was a HP ML110 with RHEL4 rev. 9. Our database installation went well, and the backup system is working. Our client uses Impact printers (C.Itoh Ci5000). These printers are not listed in the supported drivers. The Printer is supposed to emulate DEC LA50/LA75, Epson FX-286e, and IBM Proprinter XL.
The DEC and Epson drivers are listed in the CUPS printer definitions. When we try to print (test print in linux), it prints in a condensed font, and only to 10", instead of the full 14" print.
The application nees this 14" print in order be legible.
Using Gedit, I printed a 132 column document...It would only print to 80 columns on 10 Pitch font. If i increase to 12, it prints the same distance accross (10"), but in large characters...It basically wraps and truncates.
Working with a Printer Service Company, we tried changing the settings via Front Panel...Nothing from LInux printed to full page.
The Test Print of the printer prints nearly the whole page, so it is not an electronics / mechanical issue. It seems driver related.
I used IBM PROPRINTERII ( A CUPS driver), and it printed condensed Double Strike...but it printed everything.
Trying RAW, ESC/P, and IBM DOT MATRIX produced Garbage output (beeping, page eject, random characters). I can print a test document using /etc/hosts > /dev/lp0 and it prints in standard mode.
Surely someone is using these Legacy printers on a new RED HAT system...anyone.
Thank you in advanced
