No sound from my Audigy 2 ZS on SuSE 9.1
I'll start by saying I'm new to Linux, so please give me detailed answers.
Specs:
SuSE Personal edition 9.1 (kernel 2.6.4-54.5-smp)
Asus P4P800 mobo
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
I disabled my AC97 on-board sound in the BIOS.
I ran alsaconf and went through the dialogs.
I ran alsamixer and raised all levels to 50
double checked my levels in KAMix, they all look fine.
Tried to play an mp3 in XMMS. It looks as if it's playing, but I've got no sound. (no error messages)
Tried to play an audio CD with KsCD, and no sound there either.
I do hear a pop in the speakers when sound is initialized during startup.. and I did hear a pop in the speakers when going through alsaconf.
Output from lsmod:

On a side note.. is it possible to get a third mouse button (like one on the side of an Intellimouse Explorer) to act as a browser back button in Linux?

First off...
Open Control Center....
Find the aRts section... (should be under sound device, but not the YaST version!)
Tell it to use alsa... if it is not already...
Then open Kmix.
Click the advanced button... streach the window a bit bigger and note if the green light (on) is glowing next to something called audigy analogue/digital out. If it is then you are in digital mode, so unless you connect your speakers via a single digital cable, turn off the light (click on it).
Then open up XMMS.
while the XMMS program is raised (click on it as if you are using it) hit Ctrl+p (no +, just both Ctrl and p at the same time) and in the first tab look at the output plugin plain neer the bottom of the window.
make sure it is set to alsa. hit ok.
play something. Then adjust the alsamixer settings to your what you like using Kmix (it's a front end for alsamixer/amixer)

I really hadn't planned on naming my first born child slackMeUp, but the heck with it. Consider it done. I have been looking for a fix for my soundcard problem ever since installing 9.1 and you have just provided it on a platter with a cherry on top.
Thank you so much!!

Okay, well in my Sound System, under Hardware, I changed the Audio Device from Autodetect to "Advanced Linux Sound Architecture" (That took me a while... I didn't realize that's what ALSA stood for)
I applied changes and rebooted (just in case)
I had already checked XMMS to make sure it was using the ALSA Output Plugin, and it is.
I don't have any of the nifty features you're talking about in KAMix (no green lights or analog/digital switches) just plain jane Master and PCM volume controls.
Still no sound.

First off... unlike in Windows, very few things require a reboot. So unless you are changing your kernel... don't worry about it.
Now you did click the advanced button in Kmix? It's neer the bottom. It should have some extra options... like tone, and others.
If not... please post the output of this command.
It's going to be long...
EDIT: if you are having trouble grabing all the output from amixer... do this...
Code:
amixer > amixOut.txt
Then open the amixOut.txt file in whatever directory you ran the command in and copy n' paste the text here.

I've installed Kmix. Under the Advanced section, the light next to the Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack is off.

Ok run this... exactly as seen.
Code:
amixer set 'External Amplifier' off
Code:
amixer set Center 100
Code:
amixer set Surround 100
Code:
amixer set Master 100
This changes some of your mixer settings... some were set to 0% and others are at 50% which I think is low.
Now try to play something...

I also had to turn the Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack on.. after that was done and the mixer settings were changed, I've got my sound :-)
The help is VERY much appreciated!
