neither my cdrw nor my dvd/cdrw recognize new medie

I am unable to create a cd on either my cdrw drive or on my dvdr/cdrw drive. In each case, I get a message stating no media was found.
this happens even though i am using new CD-R media.

Insert a rewritable or blank disc
Please put a disc, with at least 15.5 MiB free, into the drive. The following disc types are supported:
CD-R, CD-RW
cancel ok

fstab contents:

/dev/hda2 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660
umask=0022,user,iocharset=utf8,user_xattr,exec 0 0
/dev/hdd /mnt/dvdr iso9660
umask=0,user,iocharset=utf8,exec 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda3 swap swap defaults 0 0

Hmmm..........

Try editing your /etc/fstab settings for the CD and DVD drives, for example;

Code:
/dev/hdc                /media/cdrom            auto    noauto,users,ro 0 0
