dvd/cdrw how to?

(pls forgive my english...)

im a linux newb and i dont know how to get my dvd/cdrw working...

i have a cdrom(/dev/hdb) and a dvd/cdrw(/dev/hdd) combo

im using slackware kernel 2.6.2 and i heard that 2.6.2 doesnt need scsi-emulation for cdrw to work...

well my problem is after inserting append="hdd=ide-scsi" i can use cdrw.. but it changed /dev/hdd to /dev/sr0 and i cant use it to watch dvd.

so what i did is made another menu in lilo(thesame image vmlinuz) but without the append="hdd=ide-scsi" dvd works but cdrw doesnt...

is there a way to make both of these work at the same time?

ohh yeah what is cdrw file system? dvd is udf, cdrom is iso6990 i guess..

thanks in advance

I have append="hdx=ide-scsi" (x for the letter of the drive) on Mandrake 9.2 with 2.4.22-10 and i have no problems burning and watching dvd's. Do you have the right Codecs to play dvd's? What do you use to watch dvd's?

More importantly, make sure that your DVD software is looking in the right place. If you have MPlayer installed (and you should - if not, why not ) then you can test it with mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/sr0.

thanks for the replies guys...

hehe it works now...

im using mplayer and the reason why dvd didnt work coz it still looks for the old /dev/hdd instead of /dev/sr0 which is changed when i append ide-scsi in lilo.. hehe

sorry a NEWB mistake...

thanks so much!
